On 7 November 2025, the LIFE ZeroLandFilling project participated, one year more, in the UAH Science Week, with an open day event, where we held a presentation-workshop whose main topic addressed the types of waste that exist, their classification and treatment, as well as the thermochemical processing of a large part of non-recyclable waste, which can be transformed into secondary products with market value.
The workshop was conducted by representatives of the General Foundation of the University of Alcalá and Neoliquid, two of the project partners, and explained various key aspects related to waste recovery, which is intrinsically linked to the objectives and actions of the ZeroLandFilling project.

Specifically, topics such as the differentiation between different kind of waste, its classification in the origin (households, industry, etc.), and its subsequent processing in waste treatment plants were addressed.
The application of advanced thermochemical processes, such as pyrolysis, allows the recovery of non-recyclable waste, from which secondary products such as char, bitumen, green naphtha, etc. can be obtained. These can be used in different industrial sectors, as fuels, as construction materials, etc.
As a practical exercise, several samples of waste materials were displayed, showing how such waste is classified and treated according to its characteristics, as well as samples of the products obtained after processing.

The workshop was very well received by the attendees, who included members of the university community itself, as well as the general public, who showed curiosity about the different activities hosted by this event. The attendees listened with interest to the explanations given by the researchers in charge of carrying out the activity and showed great interest in the LIFE ZeroLandFilling project.
This type of activity raises awareness of the project among the public, including the scientific community and specialists in the field, which reinforces the dissemination of the project and allows future contacts to be established with other interested individuals or entities.
